At XP Health, we're on a mission to revolutionize vision care through cutting-edge technology, including augmented reality, while ensuring a delightful and seamless user experience. With passionate founders and a team that boasts deep expertise in the field, XP Health has driven efficient, best-in-class growth to date, and is hungry for more.

We invite you to become part of our dynamic and diverse team, where unique perspectives meet unparalleled growth opportunities. With over $50M in funding raised, including our Series B round in early 2024, we’re positioned for exciting new challenges and impactful contributions to the healthcare landscape.

About the role

XP Health is running a 4–6 week study to test a new way to measure OC (optical center, the point on a lens that lines up with the eye) remotely. We’re comparing it against the in-person process we use today for progressive lenses. About 30 participants will each complete an at-home step and an in-office visit.

We’re hiring 3 opticians to work a handful of scheduled office days, each running their own station so participants move through smoothly. It’s a flexible, per-diem role that fits alongside a regular optical job. You’ll report to the study’s Principal Investigator.

What you’ll do

  • Mark the optical center by hand (“dotting”) on each test frame. The lenses have no prescription, and your marks are the study’s ground-truth measurement.
  • Work through about 10 frames per participant, at roughly 3 minutes per frame, keeping pace so sessions stay on schedule.
  • Run your own station alongside two other opticians.
  • Work with our on-site research assistant, who checks participants in, sets up frames and keeps the day on track.
  • Complete CITI training before you meet any participants. It’s a short online course on research ethics.

What we’re looking for

  • A licensed optician (ABO certified or state equivalent) with hands-on experience marking optical center and segment height
  • Comfortable following a set research protocol exactly as written
  • Steady and consistent across a full day of back-to-back sessions (about 4 participants a day)
  • Based in, or able to travel to, the Bay Area for scheduled office days
  • Willing to complete CITI training before starting, if you’re not already certified

Nice to have

  • Experience with a research or clinical study
