Woodard & Curran is seeking a detail-oriented, client-focused Professional Engineer to join our Drinking Water Business as a Project Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys partnering with municipal clients, leading meaningful projects, and delivering innovative drinking water solutions.
In this role, you will work closely with Woodard & Curran's Operations & Maintenance Division to develop, design, and deliver drinking water projects throughout Missouri and Illinois. Who We Are Looking For?
We are seeking a technically focused Professional Engineer who is passionate about delivering innovative drinking water solutions and helping municipalities solve complex water challenges.
As a Project Manager, you will partner with municipal clients and Woodard & Curran's Operations & Maintenance Division to develop, design, and deliver drinking water projects throughout Missouri and Illinois. You will work closely with Technical Managers and multidisciplinary teams to successfully execute projects while coordinating directly with clients and internal stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have experience evaluating, planning, designing, and constructing drinking water systems. Experience with municipal wastewater systems is a plus. Familiarity with treatment facilities, distribution systems, and master planning initiatives is preferred.
You will oversee project scope, schedule, budget, and client communications while also supporting proposal development, marketing initiatives, and business growth efforts.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys leading projects, building client relationships, collaborating across disciplines, and helping grow a successful water practice.
Location: Missouri & Illinois Region | Flexible Remote/Hybrid Schedule Candidates located in Missouri or Illinois are strongly preferred. Woodard & Curran offers a flexible remote/hybrid work schedule with an expectation of approximately 2 to 3 days per week in the office or onsite with clients.
Candidates should be able to support regional clients and collaborate with colleagues throughout our national water practice.

What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:
- Managing and executing work on municipal water system design, planning, and construction projects by leading and collaborating with our Operation and Maintenance Division, our multi-disciplinary teams within Woodard & Curran and with subconsultants.
- Determining the overall delivery approach for projects. Partner with senior leadership to develop technical approaches on larger projects.
- Scheduling and tracking project budgets, milestones, and deliverables.
- Utilizing Woodard & Curran’s Project Management Framework to execute all projects.
- Demonstrating strong and proactive communication skills to keep the project management and technical team(s) updated as project work progresses.
- Connecting and working with external suppliers and subcontractors support project delivery
- Interacting with clients and representing the firm in a professional manner
- Visiting client sites for meetings, proposal development, and/or to observe the status of construction projects.
- Coordinating with contractors and clients in the field during construction to ensure that projects are executed in compliance with the Contract Documents.
- Interfacing with state and local regulatory agencies and permitting officials
- Conducting and coordinating QA/QC reviews on project deliverables to ensure Woodard & Curran technical excellence standards are met.
- Collaborating with leadership and resource leaders on staffing projects.
- Providing input on the development of Woodard & Curran design guidelines and standards.
- Preparing and delivering presentations and training programs to internal and external clients and professional associations.
- Supporting business development efforts under the direction of a client manager.
What you will need to succeed:
- 10 – 20 years of consulting engineering experience.
- 5+ years of Project Management experience.
- A B.S. Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or an M.S. Degree is preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Missouri or Illinois (or ability to apply for reciprocity).
- The successful candidate will have project management and delivery expertise in civil and environmental engineering and an in-depth understanding of the engineering concepts associated with municipal drinking water systems. Experience with wastewater systems is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with demonstrated strong project management skills
- Well-versed in state and federal regulations.
- Knowledgeable in state bidding laws and funding programs.
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations to stakeholders.
- Experience with proposal writing and developing project scope, budget, and schedules.
