Motivation for the Job

Power Integrations is seeking an experienced Analog and Digital Hardware Design Engineer to play a critical role in the development of reliability evaluation platforms for next-generation power conversion ICs. This position offers the opportunity to work on emerging semiconductor technologies during the earliest stages of product development, helping ensure robust performance and long-term reliability before products are introduced to the market.
The successful candidate will work closely with IC design, product development, and reliability engineering teams to create advanced hardware systems that enable accelerated life testing and detailed device characterization. This is an exciting opportunity to influence product quality, innovate in power electronics design, and contribute directly to the success of future Power Integrations products.

Job Description

The Analog and Digital Hardware Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and optimization of advanced reliability test platforms for power conversion integrated circuits. The role requires a strong background in power electronics, analogue and digital circuit design, and reliability testing methodologies.
Working within a multidisciplinary R&D environment, the engineer will design complex power conversion systems, develop custom test hardware, and evaluate emerging semiconductor technologies under accelerated stress conditions. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal engineering teams and external manufacturing partners.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Design dynamic operating life test circuits for accelerated reliability testing of power conversion ICs using a variety of switching power supply topologies.
  • Develop complex, modular test systems capable of operating within environmental chambers at temperatures up to 95°C while maintaining device-under-test (DUT) temperatures up to 125°C.
  • Interpret Objective Technical Specifications (OTS) and translate requirements into functional evaluation and reliability test circuits.
  • Collaborate with IC design, product development, and reliability engineering teams to develop effective reliability stress-test platforms and validation methodologies.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical feedback to support product development, characterisation, and qualification activities.
  • Design and specify magnetic components, including inductors and transformers, for reliability stress-testing applications.
  • Work with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to fabricate prototype hardware, test boards, and custom magnetic components.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and optimise reliability test hardware, test procedures, and validation methodologies.
  • Perform failure analysis and root-cause investigations on test systems and devices under evaluation.
  • Create and maintain detailed design documentation, test procedures, and operational specifications.

Skills Required

  • Strong expertise in analogue and digital circuit design.
  • Proven experience designing and developing power electronic systems, including power converters, inverters, and power supplies.
  • Deep understanding of switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), including:
    • Buck converters
    • Boost converters
    • SEPIC converters
    • Flyback converters
    • Forward converters
    • Bridge converters
    • Resonant converters
  • Experience with accelerated life testing and reliability evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for complex hardware systems.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture, PCB design, and PCB layout tools.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB design practices for high-voltage and high-current applications.
  • Experience with Verilog and FPGA development.
  • Proficiency in circuit simulation tools such as SIMetrix and SIMPLIS.
  • Strong technical documentation and writing skills.

Background Desired

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power electronics and hardware design.
  • Experience designing custom magnetic components for power conversion applications.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor reliability testing methodologies and qualification standards.
  • Experience working in an R&D, advanced development, or new product introduction environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, product validation, and reliability qualification activities.
