Solution Architect
Permanent | Hybrid | North West, Frimley, Yeovil or Filton | Cloud, Infrastructure & Enterprise Architecture | SC cleared
As a Solution Architect, you will be responsible for defining, governing and assuring end-to-end technology solutions that support both business and programme objectives. Working closely with programme teams, engineering functions, suppliers and senior stakeholders, you will ensure solutions are secure, scalable, supportable and aligned to architectural standards and strategic roadmaps.
This role requires a broad, multi-disciplinary architecture background, with the ability to work across multiple technology domains rather than specialising in a single area. You'll provide architectural leadership across cloud, infrastructure, workplace technologies, networking and security, helping to shape both current delivery and future technology direction.
Responsibilities:
- Report to the System Design Authority and support architectural governance activities.
- Define solution architectures and technical designs that meet business requirements within agreed cost, time and technical constraints.
- Support the development and evolution of technology standards, strategies and roadmaps across workplace and enterprise technology portfolios.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to programme and engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with internal and external technology suppliers, ensuring technical governance and delivery expectations are met.
- Ensure security principles are embedded into solution designs and support ongoing security improvement and remediation activities.
- Maintain knowledge of current technologies, industry trends and emerging architectural practices to inform future business strategy.
- Collaborate with the wider architecture community to promote consistency, best practice and architectural integrity across programmes.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience designing and delivering solutions within modern hybrid cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of hosting and workplace technologies, including Microsoft 365, Azure and AWS.
- Experience delivering cyber-secure solutions and applying secure-by-design principles.
- Proven experience in systems engineering, network design and technology delivery.
- Strong understanding of recognised architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, MODAF or Zachman.
- Experience operating across multiple technology domains, including cloud, infrastructure, networking, workplace technologies and security.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage audiences ranging from engineering teams to senior leadership.
Desirable Skills
- TOGAF certification or willingness to work towards accreditation.
- Understanding of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies.
- Awareness of industry standards such as ISO9001 and ISO20000.
- Experience supporting accreditation and assurance activities within regulated environments.
- Experience working across multiple government security classifications.
- Defence, government or other highly regulated industry experience.
- Security architecture, cyber security or security remediation experience would be particularly advantageous.
We're seeking a versatile architect who can comfortably operate across a broad technology landscape. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills, enabling them to translate complex concepts into practical solutions and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Given the volume of security remediation and improvement activity within the portfolio, candidates with strong security-focused architecture experience will be particularly valuable. Equally important is the ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery, ensuring solutions remain aligned to business objectives, architectural standards and operational needs.
