Meta Reality Labs is seeking a motivated, self-driven, and passionate Product Design Engineering Intern for a role within its AI Glasses hardware team. The team develops wearable hardware that brings AI capabilities into everyday life. This role focuses on the mechanical design and integration of compact components and assemblies, balancing comfort, appearance, weight, durability, performance, and manufacturability.
As a Product Design Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to develop, analyze, prototype, and test mechanical designs and assemblies. With guidance from an engineering mentor, you will contribute to a well-scoped hardware project and gain exposure to cross-functional consumer product development. Join us in helping shape the next generation of AI glasses.
Responsibilities
- Research, design, and prototype mechanical components and assemblies for AI glasses, with guidance from an engineering mentor
- Create 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings, and participate in design reviews
- Prepare mechanical bills of materials, engineering requirements, and supporting design documentation
- Assist engineers and partners with material selection, manufacturing process selection, and mechanical integration of electronic components
- Perform basic engineering analyses, including free-body diagrams, fit and clearance checks, weight estimates, and tolerance analysis appropriate to the project
- Build prototypes and test fixtures; support mechanical, thermal, and environmental testing to evaluate design performance and investigate failures
- Collaborate with electrical engineering, industrial design, reliability, manufacturing, and relevant technology partners to iterate designs and communicate test results and recommendations
Qualifications
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
