Position Title: Assistant Product Design Engineer

Your Job

We are seeking a proactive, humble, and detail-oriented individual who is eager to learn and demonstrates strong potential for growth. Our R&D/Product Development Engineering team develops innovative mechanical and liquid cooling products and supports their progression from concept and prototype through validation, qualification, and mass production.

About the Role

This entry-level position supports the development of next-generation liquid cooling solutions for AI servers, data centers, and high-power electronics applications. The Assistant Product Design Engineer will work closely with mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, quality, project, and supplier teams to support product design, prototype builds, engineering testing, data analysis, documentation, and NPI execution. The role is designed to build practical mechanical engineering capability and progressively develop ownership of basic design, validation, and problem-solving activities.

Our Team

Molex is committed to creating a better future and improving people's lives through innovative technologies. With operations in over 40 countries worldwide, the company provides connectivity products, services, and solutions for data communications, healthcare, industrial, automotive, and consumer electronics markets. Our NPD Engineering team develops mechanical, interconnect, and thermal-management solutions that support customers' next-generation products.

What You Will Do (Job Description)

1. Mechanical Design and Drawing Support

•  Support mechanical engineers with basic 3D CAD model creation and modification using NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent tools.

•  Prepare and update 2D drawings, drawing notes, dimensions, tolerances, part lists, and engineering documentation under engineer guidance.

•  Assist with BOM verification, material specification review, tolerance checks, and configuration/revision control.

•  Support basic tolerance stack-up analysis and design review preparation for mechanical parts and assemblies.

2. Liquid Cooling Product Development Support

•  Support the development of cold plates, manifolds, tubing, quick-disconnect interfaces, cages, frames, brackets, seals, and related mechanical components.

•  Assist engineers in collecting and organizing technical information related to thermal resistance, pressure drop, flow rate, leakage, working pressure, and mechanical interfaces.

•  Support design comparison, material evaluation, and supplier DFM feedback for CNC machining, stamping, plating, injection molding, rubber molding, brazing, welding, and assembly processes.

3. Prototype, NPI, and Build Support

•  Prepare parts, samples, fixtures, drawings, BOMs, and build documentation for prototype, EV/DV, qualification, pilot, and NPI builds.

•  Support assembly trials, fit checks, dimensional inspections, first-article activities, and build issue tracking.

•  Maintain sample identification, quantity, status, location, and traceability throughout design verification and qualification activities.

•  Coordinate action items with internal teams and suppliers and track owners, due dates, open issues, and engineering deliverables.

4. Test and Validation Support

•  Prepare test samples, fixtures, procedures, and data sheets for mechanical, thermal, fluid, and reliability testing.

•  Assist with or coordinate testing such as dimensional inspection, insertion/extraction force, durability, leak, pressure holding, pressure drop, flow, thermal performance, thermal cycling, vibration, shock, burst, and environmental tests as applicable.

•  Collect raw data and prepare preliminary test summaries, charts, before/after comparisons, pass/fail records, and photo documentation.

•  Support review of test conditions and acceptance criteria against drawings, product specifications, customer requirements, and the approved DVPR.

5. Engineering Documentation and Systems

•  Prepare and maintain drawings, CAD files, specifications, DVPRs, test reports, FAI records, qualification reports, BOMs, material TDS files, and supplier documents.

•  Ensure engineering records are complete, accurate, traceable, and organized according to project and document-control requirements.

6. Problem-Solving and Supplier Support

•  Support failure analysis by collecting failed samples, measurements, photographs, test history, and other objective evidence.

•  Assist engineers with preliminary problem definition, comparison data, containment tracking, and verification of corrective actions.

•  Follow up with suppliers on samples, tooling, fixtures, drawings, FAI reports, test reports, schedules, and engineering deliverables.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

•  Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; recent graduates are welcome.

•  Basic ability to read mechanical drawings and understand dimensions, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes.

•  Basic CAD experience with NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent software through coursework, internship, project, or work experience.

•  Basic understanding of mechanical design, engineering materials, and manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, stamping, plating, injection molding, rubber molding, brazing, or welding.

•  Ability to organize test data and engineering information using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

•  Hands-on mindset with willingness to support prototype builds, sample preparation, measurement, testing, and issue investigation.

•  Good attention to detail, ownership, communication, and problem-solving capability.

•  Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate technically.

Development Path

The role is intended to develop fundamental mechanical engineering capability. With demonstrated performance, the Assistant Product Design Engineer is expected to progressively take ownership of basic component design, engineering validation, supplier coordination, technical documentation, and structured problem-solving activities.
