Job Description
The Life Enrichment Pathway Host helps bring our Art of Living WellSM You run Pathways. You lead the group, plan what happens, and get to know every person in the program like family. You are the one families call, the one Care Services trusts to notice changes, and the one who makes each day feel like a good day out with friends.
Location: The Kensington
Schedule: Full time, 40/hrs per week, must work 1 weekend day
Pay Range: $25-$28/hr
What You Will Do Lead the day- Lead the Daily Path for a group of up to 10 people: the Gathering, Brain Boost, Move, Lunch at the Pathways Table, Nature Nurture, Kitchen Studio, and Serenity and Sensory.
- Move the group through the rooms we use each day, set up each space before the group arrives, and put it back after.
- Walk participants to and from their apartments and between rooms. No one is left alone or forgotten.
- Change the plan in the moment when someone is tired, upset, or bored. The plan serves the people, not the other way around.
- Build monthly themes and weekly plans using Kisco's 9 Dimensions of the Art of Living Well.
- Send the monthly plan to the Life Enrichment Director for approval.
- Keep supplies stocked, stay within the program budget, and plan outings with the Life Enrichment team.
- Build and keep a profile for each participant: life story, work, family, faith, favorite foods, music, and what calms them.
- Use what you learn to shape the activities. A retired teacher might help lead a reading group. A gardener gets a job in Nature Nurture.
- Use the dementia care skills we train you in: Montessori, Validation, Hand Under Hand, and a calm physical approach. Redirect gently when someone wants to go home, repeats a question, or says no.
- Notice changes in mood, eating, walking, sleep, or memory. Tell Care Services the same shift, and right away if it is urgent.
- Write a short daily note on each participant.
- Track attendance and the outcomes Kisco asks for, and turn them in on time.
- You are a mandated reporter. Report any sign of abuse or neglect right away, following Kisco policy and California law.
- Keep families (we call them care partners) updated with regular notes and photos. Return calls and emails within one business day.
- Help with family meetings, Pathways preview sessions, tours, and open houses.
- Work closely with Care Services, Heirloom Memory Care, Dining, Sales, and the front desk.
- Train, schedule, and coach the Pathways Assistant. Train and guide volunteers.
- Attend Daily Line Up and department meetings.
- At least 2 years leading activities or engagement for older adults, in senior living, memory care, adult day, or a similar setting.
- Real experience with people living with memory loss.
- Comfort leading a group of 8 to 10 people on your own for most of the day.
- High school diploma or equal.
- Good written English for daily notes and family updates. Basic computer skills: email, calendars, Word, and online training.
- Must clear a California Department of Justice and FBI background check (Live Scan) and pass a health screening with a TB test before starting.
- Activity Director certification, or a background in recreation therapy or a related field.
- Montessori for dementia training or certification.
- CPR and First Aid.
- A second language.
- A valid California driver's license, for outings.
- California dementia care training for assisted living staff: 12 hours, with 6 hours done before you work alone and all 12 done within your first four weeks, then 8 hours every year.
- Kisco Pathways training calls on Montessori, Validation, Hand Under Hand, behavioral expressions, and physical approach.
- Kisco's Heirloom training library, done in Relias.
- Montessori certification training with a Kisco trainer.
- Four weeks of hands-on training at The Kensington before the program opens.
- Stand and walk for most of the shift, indoors and outdoors.
