Network Operation Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Network Operations Engineer based in India.

This is an opportunity to join a small, highly technical network engineering team operating a modern connectivity infrastructure environment. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain a live network spanning routing, peering, transit, MPLS, aggregation, and access infrastructure. The role combines hands-on network operations with proactive network health management and automation. You will work with monitoring, telemetry, Git-based configuration, and AI-assisted operational tooling to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently. Beyond keeping the network running, you will help automate repetitive tasks and improve operational workflows. The environment is remote, engineering-focused, and designed for people who want to grow beyond traditional NOC responsibilities.

• Monitor network infrastructure using Zabbix, Grafana, flow telemetry, and alerting systems, identifying deviations from normal network behavior and investigating potential incidents.

• Troubleshoot network faults independently by validating alerts, gathering technical evidence, localizing issues, and resolving incidents involving BGP sessions, links, latency, capacity, routing, and upstream connectivity.

• Maintain network health proactively by performing route propagation checks, validating RPKI and filtering policies, reviewing peering and transit sessions, and identifying capacity or performance degradation before it becomes an outage.

• Work with AI-assisted operational tooling, telemetry, topology information, configuration history, and runbooks to accelerate incident diagnosis while applying independent technical judgment to proposed causes and fixes.

• Develop scripts and automation using technologies such as Python, Bash, Jinja, NAPALM, NETCONF, or gNMI to reduce repetitive operational work and improve configuration management.

• Manage network configuration through Git-based workflows, including reviewing configuration changes, preparing updates, participating in code reviews, and maintaining an accurate network source of truth in Nautobot.

• Handle operational tickets and network changes through the team's workflow, ensuring issues are progressed efficiently and that completed work is properly documented.

• Produce clear incident reports and shift handovers covering the issue, affected systems, timeline, current status, troubleshooting performed, and recommended next actions.

• Escalate incidents appropriately based on impact, technical risk, and established operational procedures, while taking ownership of issues that can be safely resolved independently.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of NOC processes, automation, monitoring, and AI-assisted operations.

Requirements

• Strong practical networking knowledge, with a solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing and switching, IP addressing and subnetting, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and common network failure scenarios.

• Hands-on troubleshooting experience, including diagnosing degraded links, dropped sessions, routing issues, latency, packet loss, and upstream connectivity problems using tools such as ping, traceroute, network CLIs, and monitoring dashboards.

• Working knowledge of BGP, including route policies, communities, peering, transit, session flaps, route leaks, RPKI, and edge routing behavior.

• Comfortable working with Linux, network device command-line interfaces, monitoring platforms, and production network infrastructure.

• Experience with MikroTik RouterOS is highly valuable.

• Familiarity with Git-based configuration management, including reading diffs, understanding configuration changes, and contributing configuration updates.

• Basic scripting experience in Python or Bash, together with an interest in developing stronger network automation capabilities.

• Strong written English and the ability to document technical incidents clearly, concisely, and accurately.

• Calm, methodical decision-making during incidents, with a strong sense of ownership and reliability.

• Ability to work independently during assigned shifts while recognizing when an issue requires escalation.

• Availability in India or a compatible time zone that supports the required overnight operational coverage.

• Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA are expected; CCNP or MikroTik certifications such as MTCNA or MTCRE are advantageous.

• Previous experience in a NOC, ISP, carrier, or service-provider environment is beneficial.

• Experience with MPLS, including L3VPN or EVPN, and multi-tenant network environments is a plus.

• Exposure to open-source or white-box routing and forwarding platforms such as SONiC, IP Infusion OcNOS, FRR, or similar technologies is desirable.

• Familiarity with Nautobot, NAPALM, Jinja-based configuration generation, NETCONF, or gNMI is advantageous.

• Experience with Zabbix, Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, flow telemetry, or similar monitoring technologies is beneficial.

• Knowledge of FreeRADIUS, CoA, Disconnect flows, session control, and network accounting is a plus.

• Exposure to AI or machine learning applications in network operations, including anomaly detection, predictive failure analysis, automated triage, or remediation, is advantageous.

• Familiarity with IPv6, dual-stack networking, internet exchange operations, looking glasses, route servers, IRR, and RPKI is desirable.
