This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Accountant based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of core accounting operations within a fast-growing, remote-first environment. You will manage activities spanning accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash reconciliation, employee expenses, and the general ledger. Working closely with senior finance leaders, you will help maintain accurate, audit-ready books and support a timely month-end close. The position combines hands-on accounting execution with opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and introduce automation. You will also play an active role in identifying practical ways to use AI and modern tools to reduce manual work and improve accuracy. With a small, collaborative finance team, you will have meaningful ownership, direct access to decision-makers, and room to grow as the organization scales.
Accountabilities:
- Own the accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing and coding, approval verification, payment preparation, and vendor relationship management.
- Manage accounts receivable activities including customer invoicing, collections, cash application, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Prepare and issue accurate customer invoices in accordance with contract terms and resolve billing discrepancies and questions.
- Perform daily and monthly bank and cash reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Review and process employee expense reports for policy compliance, accuracy, and appropriate coding, while administering the corporate card program.
- Support timely and accurate month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and research and clear reconciling items for Controller review.
- Support annual financial statement audits by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
- Help maintain and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and process documentation as the organization grows.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and introduce automation and AI tools to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Contribute to special projects, accounting system improvements, and cross-functional initiatives as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and general ledger activities.
- Experience combining public accounting and private industry environments is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
- Hands-on experience with cloud accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets, with experience using Ramp.
- Strong attention to detail and organization, with the ability to meet close deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to independently investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Clear and professional communication skills, combined with a collaborative and ownership-driven approach.
- Demonstrated interest in using AI and automation to improve accounting processes, save time, and increase accuracy.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote-first environment where priorities can change quickly.
- CPA certification or progress toward a CPA is a plus.
- Experience in a high-growth technology or SaaS environment is valued.
- Familiarity with revenue recognition under ASC 606 and SaaS billing workflows is an advantage.
