This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Co-Simulation Engineer III based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced engineering professional to develop advanced co-simulation models and digital twin capabilities for hyperscale data centers and complex cooling infrastructure. In this role, you will combine thermo-hydraulic modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and multi-domain simulation to support the design and optimization of mission-critical environments. You will work closely with engineering, design, commissioning, and project management teams to deliver accurate models and actionable technical recommendations. Your work will cover chilled water and liquid cooling systems, transient operating conditions, system performance, and validation against real-world data. You will also contribute to reusable modeling assets, technical standards, and innovative digital workflows. This fully remote opportunity offers the chance to work on technically challenging projects while helping shape the next generation of data center engineering.

Accountabilities

You will independently manage complex modeling assignments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop, integrate, validate, and document co-simulation solutions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate with design teams to define co-simulation objectives, performance metrics, acceptance criteria, modeling prerequisites, and required project data.

  • Establish simulation assumptions, initial conditions, coupling strategies, and model boundaries across 1D hydraulic networks, 3D CFD models, and control systems.

  • Independently develop thermo-hydraulic flow-network models for chilled water and liquid cooling systems, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, coolant distribution units (CDUs), manifolds, and cold plates.

  • Build and maintain system-level models for steady-state and transient performance, including redundancy scenarios, failure modes, and control logic impacts.

  • Develop co-simulation interfaces between 1D network models and 3D CFD or thermal models, managing data exchange, time steps, and convergence.

  • Perform pressure-drop, flow-balancing, and heat-rejection analyses to validate design intent and support equipment selection and sizing.

  • Use hydraulic modeling tools such as Flownex, Siemens Flomaster, Aspen HYSYS, or equivalent platforms, alongside CFD tools such as Cadence Reality DC Design, ANSYS Fluent, or Siemens STAR-CCM+.

  • Create and maintain simulation-ready system schematics, component libraries, and metadata to support reusable modeling assets and digital twin workflows.

  • Configure and review model setups, including boundary conditions, solver settings, co-simulation time steps, and quality checks.

  • Prepare detailed technical reports documenting modeling assumptions, methodologies, results, limitations, and actionable design recommendations.

  • Contribute to proposals by defining modeling scope, schedules, and budgets, and present technical findings and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.

  • Manage modeling deliverables, resource forecasts, project coordination, model version control, scripts, and documentation.

  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) peer reviews of co-simulation models when not serving as the lead analyst.

  • Validate and calibrate simulation results using analytical methods and real-world operating data to ensure models are accurate and fit for purpose.

  • Collaborate with design, commissioning, operations, and CFD teams to collect and reconcile site data, including BMS/SCADA information and flow, temperature, and pressure measurements.

  • Prepare validation and calibration reports comparing model predictions with measured data, documenting uncertainty, limitations, and performance envelopes.

  • Review technical queries concerning modeling assumptions, simulation results, and design implications, and approve model updates based on validation findings and project changes.

  • Maintain validation checklists, modeling standards, project progress reports, issue logs, model status updates, assumptions logs, revision histories, and applicable RFI responses.

  • Track personal project hours and ensure assigned deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

  • Use AI-enabled and digital tools to improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and support consistent, high-quality engineering outputs.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, adopt emerging technologies, and contribute to continuous learning and innovation across engineering workflows.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Requirements

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with practical experience in hydraulic modeling, CFD, and complex engineering consultancy projects. The following qualifications and capabilities are expected:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, plus at least 5 years of experience in a consultancy environment; or

  • Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus at least 2 years of consultancy experience.

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and hydraulics, including pump and valve behavior, piping networks, and control system impacts.

  • Solid knowledge of chilled water systems, including flow control, balancing, and operating parameters.

  • Experience with hydraulic or flow-network simulation tools such as Flownex, Siemens Flomaster, Aspen HYSYS, or equivalent.

  • Working knowledge of at least one CFD platform used for data center and equipment analysis, such as Cadence Reality DC Design, ANSYS Fluent, or Siemens STAR-CCM+.

  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design documentation.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit is an advantage.

  • Experience with hyperscale data centers and liquid-cooled applications is preferred.

  • Programming experience in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or similar languages for automation and data analysis is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as strong digital file-management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete technical assignments accurately.

  • Ability to interpret complex results and communicate findings effectively in writing and verbally to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent modeling projects and competing priorities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact directly with clients and occasionally serve as their primary point of contact.

  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.

  • Self-motivation, resourcefulness, proactiveness, and effective time management in a remote working environment.

  • Ability to maintain a distraction-free workspace, follow company and site safety requirements, and prepare technical documents, reports, and correspondence.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time, potentially to any of the 50 U.S. states.

  • Benefits

  • Choice of comprehensive medical plans, including two PPO-style options and a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA).

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options.

  • Dental and vision coverage.

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits extended to spouses or domestic partners and dependent children up to age 26.

  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching and a self-directed brokerage account option.

  • Paid time off, including additional paid leave during the final week of the year.

  • Company-paid life insurance for employees and eligible dependents.

  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage, as well as accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.

  • Professional development opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and assistance with professional licensing.

  • Paid parental leave after one year of employment.

  • Remote work flexibility, with the ability to work virtually from most locations in the United States.
