This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Junior Product Designer based in Canada.

Join a collaborative, remote-first design team focused on creating intuitive, engaging digital experiences for merchants and their customers. As a Junior Product Designer, you will contribute to the full product design lifecycle, from exploring user needs and developing concepts to prototyping and delivering polished interfaces. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and fellow designers to transform business goals and user insights into impactful product solutions. This role offers the opportunity to develop your design craft while contributing to a platform that helps e-commerce brands build customer loyalty and encourage repeat purchases. You will work with modern design tools and AI-powered workflows to accelerate experimentation, create interactive prototypes, and improve product experiences. With a strong emphasis on mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning, you will gradually take on greater ownership and help shape products used by merchants and shoppers worldwide.

Accountabilities

  • Product Design and Delivery: Support the end-to-end design process for new features, including user flows, wireframes, concepts, prototypes, and final visual designs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, engineers, and designers to understand user needs, align with business objectives, and deliver intuitive, user-centered experiences.
  • Design System Development: Create, refine, and maintain reusable components, patterns, and visual guidelines to ensure consistency and scalability across the product.
  • AI-Driven Design Workflows: Integrate AI tools into the design process to accelerate iteration, explore concepts, and turn designs into functional prototypes that support faster, more accurate implementation.
  • User Experience Improvement: Identify friction points and opportunities for improvement, investigate user problems, and propose thoughtful solutions that enhance usability and customer satisfaction.
  • Visual and Marketing Design Support: Contribute to design projects beyond the core product when needed, including website updates, social media assets, sales materials, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Prototyping and Experimentation: Explore new design tools, interaction patterns, and emerging technologies to test ideas, improve workflows, and create engaging product experiences.
  • Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Present work in progress, incorporate feedback, communicate design decisions clearly, and take ownership of assigned projects from initial concept through delivery.

Requirements

  • Design Experience: Demonstrated interest in product design through internships, freelance assignments, academic work, personal projects, or professional experience. Extensive industry experience is not required.
  • Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing design thinking, visual craft, problem-solving, and the ability to turn ideas into thoughtful digital experiences. A single strong project is sufficient if it clearly demonstrates your approach.
  • Design Tools: Comfortable working with Figma and familiar with visual design fundamentals, including layout, typography, hierarchy, interaction design, and user experience principles.
  • AI and Emerging Technologies: Experience using AI tools in design projects or personal workflows, with enthusiasm for exploring how AI can improve prototyping, iteration, and collaboration. Familiarity with tools such as Paper, Pencil, or Elyx is a plus.
  • User-Centered Thinking: Ability to understand user needs, explore different approaches, and make design decisions that balance usability, visual quality, and business objectives.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills, a willingness to share unfinished work, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teammates.
  • Learning Mindset: Curiosity, organization, attention to detail, openness to feedback, and a genuine desire to develop product thinking and design skills.
  • Ownership and Initiative: Ability to identify improvement opportunities, take responsibility for deliverables, follow through on commitments, and seek guidance when needed.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where experimentation, iteration, and continuous improvement are encouraged.
  • Nice to Have: Experience with SaaS, e-commerce, or other digital products; exposure to design systems; an interest in motion design and interactive prototyping; experience working remotely; or familiarity with front-end development and AI coding tools.
  • Location and Availability: Must be based in Canada and able to work full-time, Monday through Friday, with substantial availability overlapping the team's core hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Benefits

  • Professional Development: Opportunities to strengthen your design skills, explore new technologies, and grow through ongoing learning and experimentation.
  • Collaborative Culture: Work alongside supportive product, design, and engineering professionals who value knowledge-sharing, constructive feedback, and shared success.
  • Career Growth: Take on increasing responsibility over time, contribute to meaningful product improvements, and develop your skills across the full product design lifecycle.
