This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer based in the United States.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will help shape the future of infrastructure automation, cloud operations, and system reliability in a security-focused technology environment. You will drive the design and implementation of scalable infrastructure solutions that support high availability, operational resilience, and secure digital services. Working across infrastructure, networking, and engineering teams, you will champion automation, infrastructure as code, and modern DevOps practices. Your expertise will help strengthen monitoring and observability, streamline incident response, and improve system performance at scale. You will also provide technical leadership and mentorship, guiding engineering teams toward more reliable and efficient operational practices. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical strategy, explore emerging technologies, and contribute to the security and stability of critical digital infrastructure.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will lead infrastructure improvements and operational initiatives that enhance reliability, security, and scalability. You will collaborate with engineering teams to modernize systems, automate workflows, and establish best practices across cloud and data center environments. Your responsibilities will include:
-
Designing, implementing, and maintaining infrastructure automation, monitoring, and system reliability practices to maximize service availability.
-
Performing advanced Linux system administration and forensic troubleshooting to diagnose complex issues across unfamiliar systems, services, and infrastructure components.
-
Applying a security-first approach to infrastructure management, including secure automation, hardened Linux configurations, and operational security best practices.
-
Championing DevOps methodologies, including continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), infrastructure as code, and zero-touch provisioning.
-
Improving release management, incident response, capacity planning, and operational readiness processes to ensure consistent and reliable service delivery.
-
Developing service instrumentation, monitoring systems, and visualization dashboards that accelerate troubleshooting, reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR), and minimize the need for direct system access.
-
Providing technical leadership across engineering teams, influencing infrastructure and automation decisions, and establishing consistent technical standards.
-
Mentoring DevOps engineers and other technical colleagues, sharing expertise, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
-
Proactively identifying infrastructure weaknesses and implementing solutions that improve system resilience, availability, and performance.
-
Defining and executing technical strategies for cloud infrastructure, networking, including BGP, and automation.
-
Participating in an on-call rotation and responding to incidents with urgency, accountability, and a strong commitment to customer needs.
-
Maintaining and improving standard operating procedures, technical documentation, and operational knowledge resources.
-
Researching, prototyping, and deploying new technologies across cloud, virtualization, and hardware platforms to support evolving infrastructure requirements.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate brings extensive Linux systems expertise, strong automation capabilities, and a deep understanding of infrastructure architecture, networking, and security. You should be comfortable taking ownership of complex technical challenges, working independently, and influencing engineering decisions in a collaborative environment. The following qualifications and skills are expected:
-
Strong experience in Linux systems administration, with an in-depth understanding of how operating systems interact with hardware components, including CPU, memory, storage, and networking.
-
Advanced scripting and automation skills using Ansible, Bash, Python, Packer, and Terraform.
-
Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, IAM, and VPC, as well as infrastructure provisioning tools such as Terraform and Packer.
-
Experience with data center operations, including hardware racking and stacking, remote system management, and infrastructure maintenance.
-
Proven ability to manage and configure infrastructure at scale using automated, zero-touch provisioning approaches.
-
Experience managing monitoring and observability platforms and developing custom dashboards to improve visibility into system performance and operational health.
-
Strong understanding of networking across the full infrastructure stack, from routers and switches to servers, virtualization, Linux systems, and application services.
-
Familiarity with BGP and DNS; experience in these areas is an advantage.
-
A strong commitment to operational excellence, security, system performance, and infrastructure reliability.
-
Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively with diverse technical teams.
-
Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and programming languages as business and infrastructure needs evolve.
Additional experience that would be beneficial includes:
-
Familiarity with network visibility and observability platforms such as Kentik, Splunk, or comparable solutions.
-
Experience with modern CI/CD tools, pipeline architecture, and automated software delivery practices.
-
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs in accordance with established coding standards and best practices.
-
Understanding of release management processes in large-scale production environments.
