This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer โ C++/Go based in Ireland.
Join a remote-first engineering team developing next-generation cybersecurity and web infrastructure solutions that protect millions of websites and applications worldwide. In this role, you will work at the systems level, designing and building high-performance networking and web security technologies. You will contribute to both proprietary products and open-source projects, enhancing web server integrations and advancing sophisticated bot detection capabilities. Working across the full software development lifecycle, you will help transform complex technical challenges into scalable, reliable, and efficient solutions. You will collaborate with experienced engineers in an environment that values technical ownership, curiosity, and the freedom to challenge conventional approaches. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned systems engineer to make a tangible impact on global internet security while working with a modern technology stack and minimal legacy constraints.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance software components in C and C++ to support advanced web security, networking, and infrastructure solutions.
- Develop integration modules for web servers such as Nginx and Apache, ensuring seamless compatibility, reliability, and performance.
- Extend, optimize, and maintain open-source libraries, tools, and components to address emerging technical requirements and security challenges.
- Implement new features and capabilities within a C++-based bot detection engine to improve threat identification and protection against automated attacks.
- Design and build innovative networking and web security products that address evolving infrastructure needs and enhance protection for online businesses.
- Contribute to web development initiatives where required, including components of web platforms and site engines powered partly by C++.
- Take ownership of the complete software development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, debugging, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
- Investigate and resolve complex systems-level issues involving performance, scalability, networking, and software reliability.
- Collaborate with engineering colleagues and technical leadership to define architectural decisions, evaluate new technologies, and deliver robust engineering solutions.
- Contribute to proprietary and open-source projects, applying sound software engineering practices and maintaining high standards of code quality.
- Work with technologies across the broader infrastructure stack, including Go, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kubernetes, and GitLab CI/CD.
- Participate actively in technical discussions, challenge existing assumptions constructively, and continuously improve engineering practices within a distributed team.
Requirements:
- At least 10 years of professional C/C++ software development experience, supported by a strong track record of delivering and maintaining long-term projects across multiple organizations.
- Deep expertise in low-level programming, systems development, and network programming, with the ability to solve complex technical challenges close to the infrastructure layer.
- Practical experience with web security concepts, including an understanding of web infrastructure, common threats, and approaches to protecting applications and services.
- Experience working with SQL and relational database technologies, including the ability to query, manage, and integrate data effectively.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including debugging, performance optimization, system design, testing, and maintainable code development.
- Familiarity with web server architecture and experience developing integrations or extending existing libraries and tools would be highly valuable.
- Working knowledge of Go is a strong advantage, particularly for engineers comfortable working across multiple programming languages.
- Familiarity with PHP, XML, HTML, and CSS would be beneficial for contributing to web-related components and integrations.
- Exposure to technologies such as RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kubernetes, and GitLab CI/CD is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design scalable, reliable solutions for demanding technical environments.
- A proactive, curious, and growth-oriented mindset, with a genuine interest in learning new technologies and continuously improving engineering practices.
- Excellent time management and asynchronous communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a remote-first organization.
- Strong ownership and accountability, combined with the confidence to question established approaches and contribute constructively to technical decisions.
- Previous experience in a startup or high-growth technology environment is a plus.
