Business Transformation Office team members are expected to operate across multiple capability areas. Individual responsibilities will vary based on experience, technical expertise, project requirements, and the evolving needs of the organization. Team members may lead initiatives in one area while supporting projects across several others.

Areas of Responsibility & Core Skills

Business Analysis

Serves as the bridge between business needs, data, processes, and solutions. Works directly with departments to understand problems, gather and document requirements, analyze data and workflows, develop business cases, and translate business needs into actionable solutions. Responsible for helping quantify the financial and operational impact of proposed initiatives and establishing KPIs to measure results.

Core skills: Requirements gathering, data analysis, financial/ROI analysis, process mapping, problem solving, KPI development, documentation, stakeholder communication, and solution design.

Project Management & Support

Provides structure, coordination, and accountability for cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives. Develops project plans, establishes timelines and milestones, coordinates resources, tracks deliverables, identifies risks and dependencies, facilitates meetings, and communicates progress to stakeholders and executive leadership.

Team members may either lead projects directly or provide project-management support to business leaders who own the initiative.

Core skills: Project planning, prioritization, organization, stakeholder management, executive communication, risk management, meeting facilitation, documentation, change management, and accountability.

Process Improvement

Analyzes existing business processes to identify inefficiencies, unnecessary steps, bottlenecks, manual work, duplication, errors, and opportunities for standardization. Works with departments to redesign workflows and establish more efficient and scalable operating processes.

The role should follow a disciplined approach of:

Eliminate → Simplify → Standardize → Automate → Apply AI

This ensures the company does not simply use technology to automate inefficient processes.

Core skills: Process mapping, root-cause analysis, workflow design, Lean/continuous improvement concepts, data analysis, KPI development, change management, documentation, operational analysis, and productivity measurement.

Vendor Strategy & Management

Manages and optimizes the company's relationships with technology, software, and strategic service providers. Evaluates new and existing vendors based on capabilities, cost, utilization, performance, and business value. Supports vendor selection, contract negotiations, renewals, implementation, performance reviews, and identification of redundant or underutilized services.

The objective is not simply vendor administration, but ensuring the company receives the maximum strategic and financial value from third-party relationships.

Core skills: Vendor evaluation, contract analysis, negotiation, financial analysis, SaaS management, utilization analysis, vendor scorecards, relationship management, procurement, and ROI measurement.

Business Applications Developer

Designs, builds, and maintains internal applications and tools that solve business problems and improve employee productivity. Works closely with Business Analysts and operational teams to rapidly translate business requirements into functional solutions, particularly where a lightweight internal application may be more effective than purchasing or developing a large enterprise system.

The position should emphasize rapid, practical business solutions using low-code/no-code platforms, APIs, databases, AI, and traditional development where appropriate.

Core skills: Low-code/no-code development, application design, APIs/integrations, databases, workflow automation, UI/UX, AI integration, testing, documentation, security awareness, and ongoing application support.

Automation & AI

Identifies, evaluates, develops, and implements opportunities to use automation and artificial intelligence to improve productivity, reduce manual work, improve decision-making, and enhance business processes. Partners with business departments to understand workflows and determine where AI, workflow automation, integrations, or other technologies can create measurable value.

The role should focus on solving business problems with technology, rather than implementing AI simply for the sake of adopting AI.

Core skills: AI tools, workflow automation, AI agents, process analysis, integrations/APIs, prompt design, data analysis, solution design, testing, implementation, user adoption, and ROI measurement.
