We are seeking an experienced Lead Platform Engineer to provide technical leadership, drive platform strategy, and enable engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable products. This role combines hands-on engineering excellence with mentoring, platform governance, and AI-assisted software delivery practices. The Lead Platform Engineer is responsible for building and evolving the cloud platforms, landing zones, container environments, deployment pipelines, and operational guardrails that enable multiple product teams to build and release software safely, consistently, and at scale. Beyond technical delivery, the role provides leadership through architecture direction, standards definition, mentoring, and platform strategy.Responsibilities
- Define and drive the technical direction for the Sustenance Platform, ensuring alignment with engineering and business objectives.
- Remain hands-on with platform and infrastructure engineering, actively contributing to the design, development, and operation of platform services.
- Lead by example through coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and implementation of platform best practices.
- Mentor and coach Senior and Mid-Level Platform Engineers, supporting technical decision making, engineering excellence, and AI-assisted development practices.
- Own squad delivery commitments, proactively identifying and escalating risks, dependencies, and technical challenges.
- Collaborate closely with Product Engineering leaders to understand and deliver platform capabilities that support product-specific requirements.
- Facilitate and contribute to architecture and technical design reviews for new initiatives and platform enhancements.
- Represent platform constraints, technical dependencies, and team capacity during roadmap planning and prioritization discussions.
- Establish engineering standards, governance, and best practices across platform engineering teams.
AI-Driven Engineering Leadership
As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will champion the effective adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices across the squad by:
- Defining standards for the use of AI tools and agents throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Ensuring appropriate human validation, security review, and quality controls before changes are deployed.
- Coaching engineers on effectively directing, validating, and governing AI-generated outputs.
- Continuously improving AI engineering practices, increasing team productivity while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Embedding AI-enabled workflows within the squad's Definition of Done and engineering standards.
Skills and Experience
- Strong expertise in Amazon ECS (Fargate and EC2 launch types)Service discovery, autoscaling, networking, and task-level IAM.
- Deep understanding of container ecosystem best practicesAbility to evaluate and recommend ECS vs EKS/Kubernetes based on business and technical requirements.
- Practical experience balancing operational complexity against platform scalability needs.
- Advanced Terraform expertise including:
- Reusable module design
- State management and governance
- Drift detection and remediation
- Infrastructure testing and validation
- Knowledge of CloudFormation, AWS CDK, and Azure BicepCommitment to infrastructure version control, peer review, and automated deployment.
- Design and implementation of modern CI/CD pipelinesGitOps-based deployment methodologies.
- Progressive delivery practices including Canary and Blue-Green deployments.
- Automated quality controls and policy enforcement.
- Secure and reliable rollback strategies.
- Design and implement self-service platform capabilities and golden-path experiences for engineering teams.
- Drive platform standardization and technology rationalization across a diverse product estate.
- Lead modernization and migration initiatives from legacy infrastructure to cloud-native platforms.
- Define multi-tenant platform architectures with appropriate isolation, security, and scalability controls.
- Evaluate build-vs-buy decisions and managed service adoption strategies.
- Develop platform roadmaps balancing engineering investment with business priorities.
- Create and maintain architecture decision records and engineering standards to support long-term sustainability and scalability.
