About Humble Robotics

Working at Humble Robotics means taking on the biggest change in ground transportation in decades. We're building an autonomous, zero-emissions hauler that dramatically lowers the cost of freight with groundbreaking vision-based AI, designed for today's global logistics network.

We're a fast-moving, close-knit team of AV industry veterans and innovative thinkers. We don't believe culture can be engineered – but when it falls into place, it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Progress has never felt so present.

About The Role

You’ll be our first dedicated accounting hire and own the function end to end, reporting to the Head of Finance. This is a hands-on role, from booking entries and running the monthly close to leading the company’s first financial statement audit.

We’re looking for a technically strong CPA who exercises sound accounting judgment independently and stays hands-on in the day-to-day work.

You’ll partner closely with the Head of Finance but will have full ownership of accounting and financial reporting, and as the company grows, you’ll build and lead the accounting team. Once the accounting foundation is in place, this role has potential to expand into FP&A, partnering with the Head of Finance on budgeting, forecasting and modeling.

Our interview process includes a hands-on working session built around real accounting scenarios, so we can see how you think and how you approach the work.

Our goal  is that the person who fills this role would primarily work from Humble Robotics’ San Francisco office 5 days a week. We aim to create an in office environment that fosters a collaborative, generative atmosphere where the team can build together.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the monthly close and prepare accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations and the statement of cash flows
  • Deliver monthly financial reporting to leadership, investors and other stakeholders, and prepare for potential lender reporting and compliance requirements
  • Clean up the books and get them audit-ready, then select the audit firm and lead the company’s first financial statement audit
  • Lead technical accounting research and document positions on complex or judgment-intensive transactions
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures and internal controls, including revenue recognition policies as the company begins generating revenue
  • Own accounts payable end to end, including vendor onboarding, 1099 reporting and accurate, timely coding of card transactions, bills and reimbursements
  • Own payroll accounting, including review of each payroll cycle, benefits and accruals, and review contractor invoices against contract terms
  • Own stock-based compensation accounting and equity administration
  • Keep accounting, payroll and spend systems integrated and in sync
  • Manage outside advisors on federal and state tax returns and R&D credits, and own the compliance calendar, including franchise, property, and sales and use tax filings
  • Build a scalable, low-touch accounting function using AI and automation, identifying manual work across the close, AP and reporting and automating it
  • Continuously improve close speed and accuracy as volume grows
  • Provide variance analysis and, as the function matures, own budget vs. actual reporting by department
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling and scenario analysis alongside the Head of Finance

What You Bring

  • Active CPA with 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, starting in public accounting (Big 4 or regional firm)
  • Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accounting Manager at a venture-backed company
  • Hands-on experience closing the books with a lean team or as a team of one
  • Have led a financial statement audit from the company side, ideally a first-year audit
  • Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP and experience documenting positions on complex transactions
  • Proven track record of automating accounting processes using AI and modern tools
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting, spend management, payroll and equity platforms
  • Sound judgment, high standards and the ability to operate independently
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Bonus Points

  • Experience at a hardware, robotics or other capital-intensive company
  • Experience establishing revenue recognition for a company’s first commercial revenue
  • FP&A or financial modeling experience
  • We operate in a a fast-moving field, and we don't expect any one candidate to tick every box above. If you're excited about building the systems that enable autonomous trucks to get safely on the road, and your background covers most — but not all — of what we've listed, we'd still love to hear from you. Humble Robotics is built by people who grew into the hardest problems in this field, not just people who'd already solved them.
