Job Description

At H&M Group, we are on a journey to create great digital experiences for millions of customers around the world. Within Digital Foundation, E2E Digital Operations plays a key role in keeping our online customer journeys stable, resilient and continuously improving.

Evolved Digital Operations, or EDO, brings together end-to-end operational visibility, proactive monitoring, automation, incident management, service integration, Site Reliability Engineering and close collaboration with product teams. Together, we help reduce disruption, improve reliability and enable teams to deliver customer value with confidence.

As Senior Engineering Manager for E2E Digital Operations, you will lead the teams that run and evolve H&M’s end-to-end digital operations service. This is a senior leadership role where you will combine people leadership, technical direction and operational excellence to create the conditions for scalable, reliable and customer-focused digital services.

You will translate business and technology priorities into a clear service roadmap, align multiple teams around shared outcomes and balance immediate operational needs with long-term technical health, security, compliance, cost efficiency and resilience. You will also work closely with product, engineering, architecture, commercial stakeholders, service management functions and external partners to improve how we operate at scale.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will lead E2E Digital Operations as one integrated service across three teams:

  • Delivery Excellence

  • Site Reliability Engineering

  • Governance

Your main responsibilities will include:

Service strategy and delivery

  • Own the end-to-end roadmap and technical delivery for EDO, connecting H&M Group priorities with clear, measurable outcomes.

  • Set direction across multiple teams and make sure priorities, dependencies, risks and trade-offs are visible and actively managed.

  • Balance delivery pace with service stability, resilience, security, compliance, technical health and long-term scalability.

  • Build a clear maturity path for EDO, helping the service grow in efficiency, proficiency and operational excellence.

  • Make sure teams have the skills, capacity, tooling and ways of working needed to deliver and run the service successfully.

Operational excellence and reliability

  • Own RUN performance and continuous improvement for EDO, using service, reliability and engineering insights to guide decisions.

  • Drive an integrated operating model across 24/7 operations, service integration, SRE, governance and product teams.

  • Strengthen end-to-end observability across customer journeys, including monitoring, alert quality, incident detection, escalation and operational decision support.

  • Improve incident, problem, change, event and knowledge management outcomes while keeping processes practical, lean and aligned with global standards.

  • Promote proactive and preventive operations through automation, AI-enabled capabilities, effective problem management and reduced recurring operational work.

  • Ensure operational readiness for new and changed services through clear requirements, onboarding, knowledge transfer, runbooks, access, simulations and follow-up.

  • Turn incident learnings and operational data into sustained improvements in reliability, recovery and customer impact.

Engineering and technical leadership

  • Shape and communicate the technical and operational direction for EDO, aligned with Digital Foundation and wider enterprise priorities.

  • Set and uphold engineering standards across architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, security, compliance and technical debt management.

  • Guide technical trade-offs across teams so that decisions support both current operational needs and the long-term target state.

  • Stay close enough to the technology to challenge, support and coach engineering leaders and specialists without becoming a bottleneck for team-level decisions.

  • Create clear interfaces between EDO Digital and product teams so accountability, escalation paths and expectations are easy to understand.

People and organisational leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop Engineering Managers, senior engineers and other leaders across the scope, guided by H&M values and leadership expectations.

  • Build a high-performing and inclusive culture where people collaborate well, take shared accountability and stay close to customer impact.

  • Clarify roles, decision rights and accountability boundaries across teams to reduce overlap and enable faster execution.

  • Drive workforce and competence planning, including recruitment, development, succession and sustainable workload balance.

  • Encourage continuous improvement of ways of working, technical capability and operational maturity.

Collaboration, partners and financial accountability

  • Act as the senior contact for EDO in enterprise-level planning, prioritisation and operational forums.

  • Build strong partnerships across Digital Foundation, other product areas, business stakeholders and supporting functions to resolve cross-service challenges and improve the customer journey.

  • Communicate clearly on outcomes, service performance, progress, risks, dependencies and investment needs.

  • Be accountable for relevant technology costs, including budget, actuals and forecast, while continuously improving cost efficiency and total cost of ownership.

WHO YOU ARE

We believe you are an experienced engineering leader who brings together strategic perspective, operational judgement and strong people leadership. You are confident leading through complexity and ambiguity, and you know how to align several teams and stakeholders around common goals. You believe that operational excellence is built through engineering discipline, learning, collaboration and purposeful simplification.

  • Advanced engineering expertise and a strong understanding of the end-to-end development and operations lifecycle.

  • Solid understanding of architecture, scalable design principles, cloud fundamentals and modern engineering practices.

  • Proven ability to set technical direction and lead delivery across multiple teams or a large, complex service.

  • Strong experience with RUN accountability, monitoring, incident management and SRE practices.

  • Ability to use data, service measures and insights to improve performance and guide investment decisions.

  • Experience managing technical debt, dependencies and risk across a complex technology landscape.

  • Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing and deployment, and continuous improvement practices.

  • Strong security and compliance awareness, with the ability to embed appropriate controls without creating unnecessary friction.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive decisions across organisational boundaries.

  • Experience leading and coaching managers, senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience working with vendors, managed services and external partners in an enterprise environment.

  • Financial acumen and experience managing technology budgets, forecasts and cost optimisation.

  • Business understanding and the ability to communicate technical and operational topics in a clear, relevant way.

  • Curiosity and enough technical depth to ask the right questions, challenge constructively and make sound trade-offs.
