Put your technical expertise at the heart of our operations
Are you ready to take the lead in a technical role where your expertise can make a real difference? We’re looking for an Area Technical Manager to join our team in Wigan, taking responsibility for a technical function that plays an important role in supporting our wider operations. This is much more than a technical management position. You’ll have the opportunity to lead and develop a technical team, influence operational performance, build relationships with major customers and external stakeholders, and help identify new and better ways of working. Working closely with our Commercial, Operations and HCP teams, you’ll bring together technical knowledge, strong relationships and a continuous improvement mindset to help the area succeed.
What you’ll be doing
No two days will look exactly the same. You’ll balance technical leadership with collaboration across the wider business, taking responsibility for:
- Leading the technical function, ensuring the department provides an effective and cost-efficient service to our operational teams
- Getting the best from your technical team, maximising their contribution and supporting the needs of the wider area
- Providing trusted technical expertise and working closely with Commercial, Operations and HCP colleagues
- Building strong external relationships with local authorities, supervising agencies, major customers and specifying authorities
- Representing Heidelberg Materials at external forums
- Driving continuous improvement, contributing to projects and identifying new methods, solutions and products
- Maintaining high standards, ensuring technical activities operate within agreed Health & Safety, Quality Assurance and Environmental policies and procedures
- Keeping Type Testing current and providing DOP/CE certification when requested by customers
What will make you successful
You’ll bring strong technical expertise, but just as importantly, you’ll know how to turn that knowledge into practical support for colleagues, customers and stakeholders. You’ll be someone who enjoys leading people, solving problems, building relationships and influencing across different functions. You’ll be comfortable representing the business externally while maintaining a clear focus on technical standards, quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Ready to take the lead?
If you’re looking for a role where you can combine technical expertise with leadership, collaboration and real operational influence, this could be a great next step.
With hybrid working, a competitive salary, company car and bonus, you’ll have a strong package alongside the opportunity to make an impact across our Wigan operation.
