Assistant Cook works aboard an at-sea processing vessel of the coast of Alaska in the Bering Sea, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands.
This position prepares family style meals, cleans and maintains a 200 foot vessel with 40 crewmembers, that works on a 24/7 schedule.
Requirements
- All candidates subject to a post offer pre-employment drug test, medical and background screen.
- 3+ years’ of experience as a Cook on a fishing vessel or cruise ship preferred
- Highly proficient in baking, cooking along with preparing recipes for 50+ groups.
- Basic understanding of the various laws and regulations and how/when they may apply.
- Excellent communication skills; written and spoken English.
Duties
- Prepares meals as assigned for the crew and others on a daily basis using kitchen equipment, tools and supplies stored in dry storage, refrigerators and frozen storage areas.
- Cooks food in quantities according to menu and number of crew to be served
- Prepares breakfast and midnight meals on a daily basis
- Bakes breads and desserts
- Plans menus with Head Cook to best utilize inventory
- Assists with inventory and ordering as requested by Head Cook
- Assist in loading and unloading of food and other supplies into various storage areas located on various levels of the vessel.
- Cleans kitchen area, equipment and tools after each meal to sanitation standards
Benefits
- Company travel policy agreement: Successful completion of a 65 day contract grants eligibility for airfare/hotel expenses, between the vessel and Seattle, to be paid by the company. Each fishing trip averages 12-18 days and can be more or less dependent on fishing conditions.
