Project Lead, Maritime Consortium
Bring a new consortium model to the undersea and littoral fight
This year, USSOCOM launched SOF RACER, a consortium that is free for companies and exists to rapidly prototype commercial technology. BMNT runs the human engine, framing the right problems, recruiting and preparing companies, and accelerating the impact. Soon, we may be managing a second consortium built on the same model for the maritime domain: undersea and seabed systems, littoral and expeditionary operations, mine countermeasures, and the autonomous and robotic systems. We need someone to run the day to day work.
You will be the person that a Navy program office calls when they have a problem and the reason a maritime robotics founder decides consortium membership was the best decision they made all year. You will be BMNT's first maritime domain lead.
What you will actually do
- Own the demand engine. Build and keep the relationships with the Navy program offices, labs, and operating units where maritime problems are born. Take them from "we have this problem," to a problem statement the whole consortium competes on.
- Own member value. Companies stay in the consortium because it's worth their time through rapid onboarding and member resources that you will help execute.
- Translate in both directions. Turn operator and engineer language into problem statements that an entrepreneur can act on, and keep the government side confident that what they said was not lost in translation.
- Filter honestly. You will hear lots of problems. The job is finding the right ones: real users, real pain, someone with authority who cares, and the funding for prototyping.
- Run point on the moments that matter. Industry days, curation sessions, white paper workshops, demo events, and the follow-through afterward.
Who thrives in this seat
- You have lived in the maritime domain: undersea or surface unmanned systems, mine warfare, EOD or diving, expeditionary operations, naval test and evaluation, or industry. When you walk into a Navy warfare center, people assume you belong there.
- You have worked government acquisition in the form of OTAs, consortia, SBIR, accelerators, or federal business development where your job was earning a program manager's trust.
- You can brief a Navy leader in the morning and coach a seed-stage founder in the afternoon, and you genuinely like both conversations.
- You do only 25 to 40 percent of the talking in a discovery conversation and treat what you learn as the product of your effort.
- You are comfortable with autonomy and ambiguity, and you ask for help early and loudly when it affects the mission.
- Clearance: active Secret preferred; you must be eligible for TS/SCI. U.S. citizenship required.
Why BMNT
We are the 40-person Silicon Valley company that has spent a decade proving commercial innovation methods work in national security. Our methods trace to the Army's Rapid Equipping Force, which our founder led; we run the Hacking for Defense program across 67 universities; and our pipelines have moved real technology, including ocean sensors, photonic navigation, and edge AI, into operational hands. We just helped end the consortium-fee model that taxed the defense industrial base for two decades, and we hope to bring that model to the water. We’re a small company with no layers, a national mission, and your fingerprints can be on all of it.
The details
In office or hybrid with monthly travel, especially wherever the government problem owners are. Compensation is between $105,000 to $165,000 and determined by location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
