Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, great ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job and there’s no telling what you could accomplish.
Apple’s Environment, Social & Community Innovation team is seeking an operationally driven, intellectually curious Industrial Hygiene Technical Program Manager to join our team. We are looking for an energetic program architect—someone who thrives in undefined territory, looks beyond static standard operating procedures, and sees the immense potential to create a lasting, broader impact across our global manufacturing footprint and the wider industry.
You'll be hands-on from day one, managing the contractors and Third-Party Assessors (TPAs) who run our audits, because that closeness to day-to-day operations is what earns you the insight to build what comes next. From there, you'll design the decision rules and governance frameworks that let internal teams, TPAs, and suppliers execute at world-class standards. You'll bridge technical exposure science with high-volume factory realities, represent Apple's thinking in front of the broader industry, and help set the benchmark that the rest of the sector works toward.
Description
As our Industrial Hygiene Technical Program Manager, you will identify opportunities to develop chemical management programs and convert them into structured, scalable initiatives with clear ownership, milestones, and measurable outcomes. You will drive deep technical discussions with Engineering and Operations teams, toxicologists, supplier leadership, and partner teams to embed industrial hygiene principles directly into new material qualifications, establish global manufacturing chemical management programs, and direct phase-out roadmaps for targeted classes of chemicals.
Critically, this role is designed to architect programs that scale. Rather than managing routine audits or checking off static compliance lists, you will design the systems, clear go/no-go decision rules, and governance frameworks that empower internal teams, Third-Party Assessors (TPAs) and suppliers to execute at world-class standards. You will bridge technical exposure science and high-volume factory realities, ensuring Apple’s chemical safety leadership continues to set the benchmark across the global manufacturing landscape.
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
5+ years of direct technical experience in industrial hygiene, occupational chemical exposure assessment, or chemical safety within manufacturing or technical consulting.
Proven track record leading technical programs, taking undefined challenges, and converting them into structured, executed initiatives.
Demonstrated experience managing technical vendors, consulting firms, or Third-Party Assessors (TPAs).
Professional fluency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken) to lead technical engagements across global teams and regional suppliers.
Ability and willingness to travel regionally (30-50%) across APAC manufacturing facilities, with periodic international travel.
Preferred qualifications
Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Public Health, or Chemical Engineering; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential strongly preferred.
Direct experience integrating chemical safety or industrial hygiene gates into New Product Introduction (NPI) or engineering material qualifications.
Familiarity with consumer electronics manufacturing (FATP/components) and process chemistries (solvents, cleaners, adhesives, inks).
Experience architecting chemical policies, restricted substances phase-outs, or hazard screening tools (e.g., GreenScreen®, ChemFORWARD, EPA Safer Choice).
Systems thinker comfortable making sound technical decisions and driving progress with incomplete information in fast-paced operational environments. -
Familiarity or active participation in industry coalitions or standards bodies
