Kickoff your journey with a Summer 2027 Underwriting/Claims Medical Management Internship in Metairie, Louisiana. This Metairie office is The American Equity Underwriters, INC., an operating company of AmWINS.
What You’ll Do
As an intern, you’ll:
- Work alongside professionals who are passionate about what they do
- Gain exposure to different areas of the insurance industry — from brokerage and underwriting to client services and analytics
- Apply classroom knowledge to real business scenarios

Tasks & Responsibilities
Your day-to-day may include, but is not limited to:
- Assisting with data entry, analysis, and reporting for internal team and members
- Supporting underwriting and/or brokerage teams with documentation and research
- Contributing to the comparison of insurance quotes across multiple markets to identify competitive options
- Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions
- Helping prepare presentations and client deliverables
- Networking professionals across departments to learn about different roles
- Assisting claims specialists and the medical billing team with organizing, reviewing, and indexing medical records and bills
- Entering and updating claim and medical treatment information in claims management systems
- Supporting coordination of independent medical examinations (IMEs) and utilization reviews
- Helping track medical case management timelines, including treatment plans and return-to-work status
- Assisting with drafting routine correspondence to providers, claimants, and adjusters
- Maintaining accurate, organized, and confidential claims files in compliance with regulatory standards
Who We’re Looking For
- Students enrolled at an accredited college or university
- Pursuing a degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Healthcare or Medical Management, Business, or a related field
- Recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Students who are curious, driven, and eager to learn
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
