We are currently seeking a Commodity Buyer to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa.
About the Role
As a Commodity Buyer, you will be responsible for managing assigned commodity sourcing activities, developing supplier partnerships, and leading commercial negotiations to support production and project requirements.
This role plays a critical part in executing procurement strategies through sourcing, RFQ management, supplier development, commercial support, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Source components and identify qualified suppliers
- Manage RFQ processes and supplier evaluations
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Support supplier development and performance improvement activities
- Partner with Engineering teams to support commercial decision-making
- Resolve supply chain and supplier-related issues
- Drive cost reduction and value improvement initiatives
- Prepare sourcing recommendations and business cases
- Monitor and report on supplier performance metrics
What We're Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain management
Skills & Competencies
- Strong commercial negotiation skills
- Cost analysis and total cost of ownership assessment
- Supplier relationship and performance management
- Proactive risk identification and mitigation
- Contract and commercial awareness
- Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams
- Excellent presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
